Baku-APA. The Nigerian military on Tuesday confirmed that a yet-to-be identified Lebanese expatriate working with construction firm Setraco was abducted in Benin City, capital of southern Nigeria's Edo State, in an operation by gunmen, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
In a telephone conversation with a Xinhua reporter, Roseline Managbe, spokesperson of the military in Edo State said the victim was held by his captors while driving through Benin City with a convoy of security operatives.
"Obviously, their target was the Lebanese expatriate," the military officer said.
She, however, could not confirm if more casualties were recorded in the gunmen attack.
But another military official, who craved for anonymity, told Xinhua that the military recorded three or more wounded casualties in a crossfire with the attackers.
The wounded soldiers were badly hit by bullets and were quickly whisked away from the scene of the incident.
Unconfirmed media reports say two among the soldiers died of bullet wounds.
Both the military and Setraco, where the abducted expatriate is a top official, were yet to confirm if the gunmen had contacted anyone or demanded a ransom to secure the release of the abductee.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. But in the past, several expatriates had been killed while some others had been rescued unhurt in the West African country. On May 16, the police in Nigeria's southwest Lagos State rescued a 61-year-old Lebanese woman, who was kidnapped at her residence inside the Lagos metropolis on May 2.
