Baku-APA. Bosco Ntaganda, leader of the rebel M23 movement in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), surrendered to the U. S. Embassy in the Rwandan capital Kigali, the government said on Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Ntanganda is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The U. S. Department of Treasury in January blacklisted M23 for "serious crimes" involving the targeting of children in the conflict.
In a statement, the Rwandan Foreign Ministry said Ntaganda handed himself in at the U. S. Embassy in the morning.
DR Congo says Ntanganda fled to Rwanda in an infight between two factions of M23 last week.
