New clashes in Sudan’s Darfur kill 6

Baku-APA. Six people were killed and 12 others injured over past three days as fresh clashes erupted in Sudan’s restive Darfur region, APA reports quoting state news agency SUNA.

The clashes, took place in the town of Mellit in northern Darfur, have been put under control and a potential tribal conflict were prevented, it said.

According to Mohammed Osman Ibrahim, local administrative chief, the clashes were caused by controversies over a person’s death.

Two weeks ago, unknown gunmen attacked government troops elsewhere in northern Darfur, leaving four people dead and six injured. At least 300,000 people have been killed since Darfur plunged into unrest in 2003 according to a UN estimates, while the official tally stands at 10,000.
