Baku-APA. Sudanese Minister of Defense Abdul- Rahim Mohamed Hussein said Friday that military clashes were taking place between Sudan and South Sudan on their joint border inside Sudan, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

South Sudan forces were in Al-Meram area in South Kordofan, 33 km inside the Sudanese territories, Hussein told a press conference in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, saying "battles are taking place in Al-Meram and Bahral-Arab areas on the border between South Sudan and Sudan’s Darfur region."

"We do not exclude possibilities that South Sudan would make a move similar to what had happened in Heglig, but we are ready and have our arrangements for that. However, we do not have any hostile intentions towards South Sudan," he said.

South Sudan, on April 10, took control of Heglig area which houses Sudan’s biggest oil fields. Sudan restored the area on April 20.
