At least 1 killed, 3 critically injured in grenade attack in N. Kenya

Baku-APA. At least one person was killed and 3 others critically wounded after suspected Al-Shabaab insurgents hurled two hand grenades in a restaurant in northern Kenyan town of Wajir on Wednesday evening, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Regional police commander, Leo Nyongesa, confirmed that the attack took place at 7:30 p.m. local time (1630GMT) on a small restaurant owned by non Somali in Wajir town.

"I can confirm that one person was killed and three others critically injured this evening in Wajir town. We suspect members of Al-Shabaab are behind the attack on a restaurant owned by non Somali," Nyongesa told Xinhua by telephone.

He said the police have been sent to the scene of the blasts which has sent panic across the entire region.

"We are pursuing the attackers as we establish the motive behind the attack. So far we have not arrested any suspect. We will get to the root cause of all these string of attacks in this region," Nyongesa said.

The incident came a day after four Kenya police officers were seriously injured, three of them seriously by armed Somali gunmen in a dusk attacks on Tuesday in the insecurity prone Dadaab district of northern region bordering the war-ravaged Somalia.

The latest attacks also came two days after about 38 people were injured in attack possibly caused by improvised explosive device in capital city of Nairobi by suspected members of Al- Shabaab.

Since the Kenyan military incursion into Somalia, several attacks believed to have been carried out by Al-Shabaab have occurred in Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa and Dadaab districts of northern Kenya even as the military reports gains against the group by capturing their military bases and killing scores of them.
