Azerbaijani MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev has said there is a need to create an English-language television channel in the country.
Addressing a parliamentary meeting on Friday, Hasanguliyev said that there are already English-language TV channels in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other post-Soviet countries.
He voiced an objection to the fact that the state budget for 2018 provides for allocation of 32 million manats to the Azerbaijan State Television and 12 million manats to the Public Television.
“Why should we allocate so much money for these channels? We should aim these funds to creating of an English-language channel. We intend to attract tourist next year by spending millions of manats. Do we have enough propaganda for this purpose? Therefore, there is a need to create an English-language channel in Azerbaijan,” added Hasanguliyev.
