Heavy metals found in Chinese-made glass cups, public urged to be vigilant

According to the information received from the Republic of Poland through the European Union's "Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed" (RASFF), the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) has detected the migration of heavy metals cadmium and lead in glass cups manufactured by the "Market Union Co. Ltd" company operating in the People's Republic of China, APA reports.

The Food Safety Agency and the Ministry of Health have jointly released a statement on this.

The information states that 6 of these products were sent to the "Sinsay" store located in the "Sevinc Mall" shopping center operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan:

"We would like to inform you that the cups in question were not submitted to the Republican Sanitary and Quarantine Center of the Ministry of Health and therefore did not undergo appropriate laboratory tests.

Citizens who have purchased these products are asked to submit the glass cups to the Republican Sanitary and Quarantine Center of the Ministry of Health for testing. Laboratory tests will be carried out free of charge. If no hazardous heavy metals are detected as a result of the tests, the products will be returned to the citizens.

The Food Safety Agency and the Ministry of Health are monitoring the issue, and necessary measures are being taken to protect the health of consumers."
