Azerbaijan’s judge selecting practice shown as positive example

Baku – APA. The European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) prepared a report on evaluation of judicial system of Azerbaijan. A working group of the well-known experts was established for preparing this report, APA reports. The experts visiting Azerbaijan observed the examination for selecting candidates for judgeship and met with the representatives of the local and international organizations. The experts highly assessed the examination held in the presence of local and international observers in a single auditorium, declaring the exam results in that auditorium and that the examination was available online.

The selection of the candidates for judgeship was based on the modern international standards, the Commission said in its report and emphasized that the process was transparent and unbiased.

The meeting of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) was held with the participation of the representatives of 47 member states on December 7-8. The working group’s report was discussed and adopted at the meeting, Azerbaijan’s practice was shown as a positive example for other countries.

The development of Azerbaijan’s judicial system, use of advanced foreign practice, modern information and communication technologies were highly appreciated at the meeting. It was underlined that Azerbaijan is the first country to translate into the state language and publish the SEPEJ reports analyzing the judicial systems of the Council of Europe member states.

The procedure for selecting candidates for judgeship in Azerbaijan was also shown as a positive example in the report on the project on strengthening judicial reforms in the Eastern Partnership countries.
