Landslide-threatened territories in Baku made public
Niftiyev said that antropogenic and technogenic factors created the landslide threat in the capital city: “The landslide in Zigh hillside occurred because of technogenic factors. The technogenic factors are superior in “Ahmadli 1†zone, natural factors - in “Ahmadli 2†zone. The park area around Narimanov’s monument was strongly active landslide zone last year due to the technogenic factors. Large landslide areas appeared at Yunus Dagli, Hasan Seyidbeyli, Salatin Asgarova and Gutgashinli streets last year because of sewage waters. Technogenic and seismic factors also affected these areas. The measuring devices detected the vibration created by 40-ton trucks in Bayil hillsideâ€.
According to Niftiyev, the situation in Bayil hillside is stable now. The new e-monitoring system was set here by the Ministry of Emergency Situations: “There are no dangerous cases in this territory yet. Three landslide areas were identified there by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in 2003. The Republican Seismological Service Center has also confirmed the landslide threat in those territories by this year. The work conducted jointly with the Japanese experts confirmed that there is landslide plane in three different depths in Bayil. The length of active landslide plane identified in this area in 2000 was 43-74 meters. That plane exists, but has no problematic intensification. A little activation was observed in August this year and the splits appeared along the landslide plane. But now this territory is stableâ€.
The expert noted that the strengthening work is conducted in Bayil: “Foothold walls are strengthened throughout the Neftchilar Avenue until the 40-meter depth. The measures taken here are quite satisfactoryâ€.
