Documents on Azerbaijan kept in Vatican’s secret archives brought to Azerbaijan

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. The copy of documents on Azerbaijan in Vatican’s secret archives was brought to Baku on December 7, Director of the Department of Information and Translation of the Institute of Manuscripts of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences told APA.

According to him, these documents consist of the letters of rulers of states of Elkhanides, Atabeys, Aggoyunlu, Garagoyunlu, Sefevis and Gajars to Vatican and the answering letters to them, the letters form Vatican to the above-mentioned states and their answering letters to Vatican, the secret reports of various missioners on political streams in Azerbaijan and other documents: “The secret documents consist of 1000 pages. These are very significant documents. It will be possible to clarify the secret moments of Azerbaijan’s history via these documents”.

Alakbarli said that the secret documents are in various languages: “Mongolian, Turkish, ancient Uyghur, Arabic, Latin, Italian languages are among them. It is not easy to research these documents. It will take several years. The majority of letter is diplomatic. It is needed to deeply research that period’s history and political atmosphere when researching them. The historians and specialists knowing the various languages must participate in this work. The documents will be published after complete research”.
