Baku. Habil Suleymanov – APA. The meeting of the CIS ministries and agencies responsible for the youth and physical education has started in Baku. The meeting will last for two days. Enhancing cooperation in the field of the youth and sport, implementation of the decisions are being discussed at the meeting. The officials of the CIS countries also touched on holding joint events on the international arena. The grand international sport tournaments of the European states have recently been held jointly. Russian Deputy Minister for the Youth Police, Sport and Tourism Yuriy Nagornykh told APA that he supported similar cooperation idea among the CIS member states.
“The idea of Azerbaijan and Russia’s hosting grand sport tournaments jointly should be welcomed. There exist kinds of sports that are popular both in Russia and Azerbaijan. For example, wrestling, rhythmic gymnastics, alpinism etc. The first stage of such a tournament can be held in Azerbaijan, the second stage in Russia. Such practice already exists in Europe,” he said.

One of the tendencies causing concern in Azerbaijan is the ultranationalism among the youth in Russia. Answering APA’s question “Is the Russian government taking steps to prevent xenophobia?” Yuriy Nagornykh said a special program had been adopted for it.
“Radical ideas of the youth are sourced from unemployment, drug abuse and other social problems. We adopted state youth strategy for 2020, this document comprises creation of jobs, attraction of the attention of the youth to sport. We perceive that Azerbaijan and other CIS member states are concerned over some features of the international relations in Russia. I assure you that the Russian government is making serious efforts to solve this problem,” he said.

Yuriy Nagornykh said Russia is astonished at the recent development of sport in Azerbaijan.
