Baku City Education Office: Nearly 100 schoolgirls in Nardaran still wear hijab

The problem still remains in Nardaran. We expect that elders of this village understand the situation and solve this problem themselves. Therefore we have waiting attitude toward this issue in Nardaranâ€, deputy chief of Baku City Education Office Mahammad Bayramov told APA.

He said nearly 100 schoolgirls in Nardaran still wear hijab. The deputy chief of education office said earlier there were large number of hijab-wearing schoolgirls, but later some of them leave the headscarves while coming to school.

Bayramov said they are working to solve this problem: â€œThere is more than 10 000 population in Nardaran and most of them are religious and aggressively approach the issues. Therefore we donâ€™t take action against them to avoid confrontation in the village. We prefer solution based on the principle of voluntarism and now we are conduction educational work among the principals and teachers try to educate the people. They are also conducting educational work in the schoolsâ€.

The education official said hijab-wearing schoolgirls would leave their headscarves when they reason from the educational work.

In his interview to APA, chief of Sumgayit City Education Office Vidadi Bagirov denied reports that the hijab-wearing schoolgirls are not allowed to enter the school. He said there is no such problem in Sumgayit: â€œToday schoolchildren should observe the schoolsâ€™ charters and wear only uniforms. Both schoolgirls and schoolboys have to observe these rulesâ€.
