Rector of Baku State University Abel Maharramov: The boys who wish to get masterâ€™s degree and post-graduate education can be deferred from draft this year

This issue is on the agenda,â€ rector of Baku State University, member of the parliamentâ€™s committee for science and education Abel Maharramov told APA.

He said that it causes concerns that the bachelorâ€™s degree holders are not deferred from draft for getting masterâ€™s degree.
â€œThe number of those attending full-time masterâ€™s degree courses in Baku State University was always more than those attending correspondence courses. But now more people are attending correspondence courses. The majority of them are girls. This also causes concern. The issue of deferment from draft should be solved positively so that excellent students are not drafted,â€ he said.

Abel Maharramov said they can serve after getting masterâ€™s degree and post-graduate education.
â€œIf they are drafted after completing these degrees, they can return to the education system. But the majority of those who are drafted before completing these degrees do not return to the education system. Those who return attend correspondence courses. It is impossible to improve science with correspondence courses in Azerbaijan. We are concerned about it. I am sure that President Ilham Aliyev will focus attention on these issues, statistical data will be taken into consideration, proper steps will be taken. They can be deferred from draft. We think that this issue will be solved by the decision of the country leadership soon,â€ he said.
