Baku. Ilhama Isabalayeva – APA. 200 schoolgirls wearing hijab are still absent from the school, but 60 percent of about 1000 schoolgirls wearing hijab passed into uniforms and went to school, deputy chief of the Baku City Education Department Mahammad Bayramov told APA. More than 600 schoolgirls re-started school attendance on the eve of New Year. “There is move forward after the holidays as well, but we have no statistics. The problem can be considered resolved except Nardaran. 100-110 hijab-wearing girls don’t go to school in this village. Nearly equal number of schoolchildren are absent from other schools of Baku. Most of them are children of akhunds or mullahs. It is not easy to work with them”.

Bayramov said teachers are visiting them at home to conduct educational work.

The education official said the problem would be solved soon. “Principal and teachers of the Nardaran school are local residents and therefore they can’t totally join the process. We will work with Nardaran residents on the basis of private plan. We consider that they are under influence of foreign country”.

Bayramov said this is not a violation of children rights. “The school requires pupils to wear uniforms only, but not to leave the school”.

The pupils absent from the school will fall behind and have to learn previous programs. The schools can organize additional courses for them.
