Azerbaijan makes avian flu monitoring results public

Baku. Ilhama Isabalayeva – APA. State Veterinary Service under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture has announced the results of the next monitoring conducted in connection with avian flu since. State Veterinary Service told APA that pathological materials of 23 wild birds and blood samples of 1368 poultries taken from individual farms have been examined in the Republic Veterinary Laboratory during the first monitoring started on January 10. Avian flu virus was not identified in the samples.

The monitoring was conducted in the national park and preserves in Absheron peninsula, Devechi, Salyan, Aghjabadi and Lankaran regions and seaside zones settled by the migrating birds. No dead or ill birds were found in the areas. Monitoring was conducted by the experts of the ministries of health, ecology and natural resources, as well as from the society of hunters and fishermen.

The State Veterinary Service plans to start the next avian flu monitoring on January 31 and the service once more urges the farmers to keep birds in closed areas to prevent them from contacts with migrating birds.
