8 AIDS-infected persons died in Azerbaijan’s Lankaran region last year

To him, in general, 50 patients died from this illness within 10 years. Ibishov noted that blood samples of more than 19 000 residents of the southern region were examined at laboratories in 2010. Consequently, HIV/AIDS were revealed in 70 blood samples. 27 of them are from Lankaran, 20 – Astara, 14 – Masalli, 8 – Jalilabad, 1 – Yardimli. Generally, number of AIDS-infected patients reached 426. 214 of them live in Lankaran, 92 – Astara, 80 – Masalli, 30 – Jalilabad, 6 – Lerik region, 4 – Yardimli. 20% of the patients are women. Most of the AIDS-infected people are the people at the age of 30-40. The Laboratory Director said that AIDS was an illness which spread mostly among the migrants, that is why people living abroad more than 3 months must be examined at the laboratory.
