Hijab problem at school: What do MPs and intellectuals think about it? - <font color=red> POLL </font>

Baku. Ramil Mammadli. Rashad Suleymanov - APA. â€œThere is no prohibition of hijab in Azerbaijani legislation. But each educational institution may forbid or permit it by internal normative legal actsâ€, said MP Aydin Mirzazadeh, APA reports.

â€œHijab wearing must be completely forbidden at secondary schools. A pupil has not been well-formed to have any religious outlook. A school has its own rulesâ€, said Chairman of Culture Committee Nizami Jafarov.

â€œThe society has to struggle against such casesâ€, said Secretary General of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers Rashad Majid.

Chairman of United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev said that the first item of article #18 (â€œReligion and Stateâ€) of the Constitution shows: Religion is separated from the state in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The 3rd part of the main law reads that state educational system has circular character: â€œAnd hijab is religious clothes and attribute. So, the law forbids its existence at educational institutions. Hasanguliyev appreciated Education Ministryâ€™s attitude towards this issue.

Professor of Baku State University, political analyst Rustam Mammadov noted that attitude towards Islam changed after the collapse of USSR: â€œAs long as Azerbaijan approached Turkey, it began to admit hijab culture of this country. And unstable situation occurred for Azerbaijan. I see increase of hijabs in classrooms year-by-year. Schoolgirls wearing hijabs differ from others. Some coding appears in their behavior. And it confuses the society with European logicâ€.

Historian Karim Shukurov said that attitude toward this clothe was difficult because parents make decisions more than their children. The best way for stabile situation is to let people make decision themselves. Administrative resources may intensify the situationâ€.
