Azerbaijani civilian speaks about his captivity in Armenia

Azerbaijani civilian Eldar Tagiyev released from Armenian captivity on November 4 is undergoing isolation period under the control of doctors at the infectious diseases unit of the Tovuz central hospital. Doctors said preliminary check-up didnâ€™t find any infection.

Resident of Azerbaijanâ€™s Tovuz region Eldar Tagiyev was in captivity in Armenia for almost a year and today he spoke about his captivity.

He was captured by the Armenians while fishing in the river in the territory of Azerbaijan near the Armenian borders. He said he was taken to Ijevan region of Armenia and then to Yerevan.

Tagiyev said he didnâ€™t face with tortures during the captivity. â€œRepresentatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross visited me in Yerevan. They took an interest in my detention conditions and then I sent a letter to my family via ICRC. I didnâ€™t face with tortures because of ICRCâ€.

Tagiyev said he saw two more Azerbaijani captives in Armenia. â€œArmenians didnâ€™t allow me to speak with them, but I understood that one of them was from Goranboy region, another one from Aghdam. A man from Aghdam was released in May, but another one that was from Goranboy is still in captivityâ€.

He said he was forced to be interviewed by Public Television of Armenia during the captivity. â€œThey forced me to say on their Public Television that there is a hard living condition in Azerbaijan, people suffer from gas and electricity problems and the government doesnâ€™t assist them. They threatened me with torturesâ€.

Tagiyev thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the recent Astrakhan meeting. â€œWe were released thanks to the declaration signed by Mr. President. I feel I was born againâ€.

Doctors at the infectious diseases unit of the Tovuz hospital said that Eldar Tagiyev was completely examined and no infection was found during preliminary examination, but they would make final decision after the completion of all analyses. Eldar Tagiyev was released on November 4.
