ANAS holds reporting back meeting due to the outcomes of 2009

Head of the President’s Executive Office Ramiz Mehdiyev also attended the meeting. ANAS president Mahmoud Karimov said that last yearâ€™s pursued state policy had stimulated the development of science too: â€œLast year President Ilham Aliyev issued an order on â€œNational strategy in connection with the development of science within 2009-2015â€ and State Program related to it. Working Group of ANAS has been established in connection with the implementation of this strategy. On November 21 last year head of the President’s Executive Office Ramiz Mehdiyev held a meeting on current state of social and humanitarian sciences in the country at the Academy of Public Administration. And that meeting made ANAS responsible for new duties. Either that meeting, or Ramiz Mehdiyevâ€™s article on â€œSocial and humanitarian sciences: look in the context of timeâ€ were discussed at the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and scientific-research institutes of department of humanitarian and social sciences of the Academy were given serious tasks. Now works are being continued in direction of implementation of those tasksâ€.

Karimov noted regretfully that some people considered Mehdiyevâ€™s substantial cavils in that article addressed to Academy as â€œAttack to ANASâ€ campaign. â€œThere are efforts for making artificial confrontation between science and educational institutional and for decreasing the role of ANAS in the development of science. Nevertheless, the status of the Academy was determined by the head of stateâ€.

ANAS president said that researches were conducted on 470 topics connected with 139 problems at the Academy last year. About 150 scientific results were gained. 50 patents were taken and results of 143 research works were investigated, more than 400 books, 5600 scientific articles and theses were published by ANAS scientists.
