Azerbaijan’s telecommunications market takes 5th place in the CIS

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. The telecommunications market of Azerbaijan is the fifth largest among the CIS countries (except Russia).

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology says it was stated in the report “Telecommunications market in CIS countries in 2011”, prepared by the PMR analytic agency.

The three largest telecommunications markets in the CIS are the markets of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus. They are followed by markets in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

According to the report, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Belarus are regional leaders per capita expenditure, while Ukraine is located on the seventh position on this indicator.
In Ukraine, for example, the cost of mobile communications and the Internet are among the lowest in the CIS. In this country fixed telephone network are relatively well developed, and therefore the consumption of telecommunications services in volume is more than in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, which have even higher costs per capita.

According to PMR, telecommunications market in the CIS countries will grow by 5.5% (up to 11 billion euros) in 2012. This will be due mainly to revenue growth for mobile operators.
The total market of telecommunications services in the CIS and Georgia closer to 11 billion euros in 2010, an increase of 10% on an annualized basis. The market fell to 10.5 billion euros in 2011, that is, approximately 4.5% on an annualized basis.
