The naval forces of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have announced that a supertanker caught fire following a powerful explosion after striking a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz, APA's Tehran bureau reports.
According to the IRGC Navy, the tanker, carrying more than 2 million barrels of crude oil, attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz via an unauthorized route after switching off all its positioning and radar systems.
An explosion and a massive fire broke out after the vessel struck a naval mine.
"The Strait of Hormuz is closed. The fate of vessels that do not comply with Iran's regulations regarding the strait is to burn in the flames of their trust in the US military," the IRGC said in a statement.
