HP to name Meg Whitman as CEO

Baku - APA-Economics. ABÅž-Ä±n Hewlett-Packard is set to name Meg Whitman, the former eBay CEO and California candidate for governor, as its new CEO, forcing aside Leo Apotheker after just 11 months on the job, APA report quoting Associated Press.

HP’s board was meeting Thursday and an announcement could come as soon as the close of trading, a source familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.

Whitman is getting the nod because there are few available people with the ability to run complex technology businesses, said the person, who was not authorized to speak on behalf of HP, and therefore spoke on condition of anonymity. Apotheker is being removed because the board lost confidence in his ability to lead the company long-term, not because of any particular strategy decision, this person added.

The Wall Street Journal and the AllThingsD websites, citing anonymous sources, had earlier reported the change.

Whitman’s appointment would be an embarrassing end to Leo Apotheker’s 11-month stint as HP’s CEO. It would be the second time in two years Apotheker has been forced out of a top technology job. He resigned from German business software maker SAP AG last year, after less than a year as CEO.
