Baku hosts event on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

Baku. Elnur Huseynguluyev - APA-Economics. Today, on occasion of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and IT has held an event on “New generation of technology – application of e-type ATS”.

Deputy minister of communications and IT Iltimas Mammadov noted that this year marks 146th anniversary of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day: “Since 2001, all UN member-countries of the International Telecommunication Union have special recommendations about effective organization of ICT. Each year – since 2006 up to this day, ITU puts up to discussion actual topics in the whole world. This year, it is recommended to direct the attention to effective use of information technologies in rural areas and remote regions”.

Mammadov said that these topics were important for Azerbaijan as well: “Because, conditions of use from high developed special information technologies must be in rural areas, regions and remote regions of Azerbaijan too. Wide base has been created for it, all analog-type ATSs were substituted with e-type ATS. These type of ATS create conditions for use of new generation of technologies in remote regions and rural areas”.

Deputy minister noted that at present, activity of analogue-type ATS have been stopped in Baku and those ATS would be substituted with modern ATS.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Communications and IT Mushfig Amirov gave detailed information about the activity of www.iktnews.az website. He said that in 2012, digital television would be totally applied in Azerbaijan.

Along with officials of the Azerbaijani Education Ministry, representatives of other state and non-state organizations attended the event.
