Abid Sharifov: â€œNo flood hazard is expected in Azerbaijan, this yearâ€

According to him, although the water rose, itâ€™s not dangerous. He says the water velocity makes 650-700 cm/second this year, while it was 1700-1900 cm/sec: â€œPersons with no information on this issue say the water rose and this makes the population worry. We have many reserves and no fear must be observed on itâ€.

He noted that, the water level in Mingechaur Reservoir makes 4 metres lower this year than it was 79.6 metres last year. In other word, there is opportunity for entering some mcm of water: â€œThis means that, we have great reserve to keep the water here. We had not such reserve, last yearâ€.

According to Sharifov, a dam more than 400 km has been built in accordance to the Presidentâ€™s order: â€œThese works are conducted and continued not only along the Kura and Araz Rivers, but around the other mountain rivers. The issues on water level in the rivers are under the control of state bodies and direct head of state. Thatâ€™s why I donâ€™t believe that the flood may be taken placeâ€.
