Azerbaijan General Prosecutor's Office : Those who interfere with the work of election commissions will be subject to administrative and criminal liability

Those who interfere with the work of election commissions will be subject to administrative and criminal liability, said the first Deputy General's Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elchin Mammadov during consultation held for the chairmen of the district election commissions at the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

He said that elections are the main indicator of democracy: “The duties of prosecutor's offices regarding elections are mostly related to handling of received complaints. We have not received any appeals related to the referendums held in the years 2002, 2009, 2016 at all. Such appeals containing complaints were not received by the prosecutor's office regarding with the last presidential elections.”

Elchin Mammadov noted that those who hinder and interfere with the job of election commissions will be subject to administrative and criminal liability: “In such cases, election commissions can apply to prosecutor's offices. At the same time, complaints from election commissions can be filed in court. These cases should be reviewed within 3 days in the trial courts of higher court decisions. Criminal liability is established for interfering with the job of election commissions and for falsifying election documents.”
