Businessman arrested in Azerbaijan for anti-state appeals will go on trial

Baku. Ramil Mammadli –APA. Businessman Hajibey “Zagatalsky” Ibrahimov and his two companions arrested for public appeals against the state will go on trial next month. The preliminary hearing will be held on April 10 under the chairmanship of Judge Afgan Hajiyev, the Court of Grave Crimes told APA.

Zagatalsky was arrested on October 13, 2008 as a result of joint operations conducted by the Ministry of National Security and Police Office of Zagatala Region. His driver Nabi Sulkhayev and worker of his restaurant Haji Katlayev were also arrested later. All three persons are accused in spreading of nationalist books and leaflets in the areas of the region populated by the ethnic minorities.

Police found anti-State documents and hand grenades in his house. His office computers were also confiscated by police. Zagatalsky and his two companions are charged with article 281 (public appeals directed against the state) of the Criminal Code.

Hajibey Ibrahimov, known in Zagatala as “Zagatalsky”, is the owner of “Lezzet” holiday resort and “Magara” tobacco farm.
