Lawyers of persons accused in â€œecstasy caseâ€ address court

The hearing on the case of Orkhan Nadirov, son of Peopleâ€™s Artist Ilhama Guliyeva, Mahir Mirsalamov and Yalchin Hasanov, sons of former Baku and Azizbayov prosecutors Adalat Mirsalamov and Rashid Hasanov and 11 others continued in the Court of Grave Crimes. APA reports that judge Azer Orujov presided over the process.
Defendant Hasan Hasanovâ€™s lawyer Jahangir Nasirov said the accusations brought against his client were not right. The lawyer asked the court to give a mitigating sentence to Hasanov.
Ali Ismayilovâ€™s lawyer Heydar Asgarov said his client gave testimony in the initial investigation under pressure. The lawyer asked the court to acquit Ismayilov. Vugar Aliyevâ€™s lawyer Ramiz Zeynalov accused inspector Kanan Aliyev of forgery. He said Kanan Aliyev gathered groundless materials about the defendants.
â€œThe relatives of most defendants serve Azerbaijanâ€™s statehood. Groundless measures were taken during the investigation in the National Security Ministry. We ask the court to acquit the defendants and hold accountable the persons, who carried out the investigation,â€ he said.
Ruslan Zaliyevâ€™s lawyer Alovsat Agamoglanov wanted his clientâ€™s sentence to be mitigated.
The hearing will continue on March 31.
In the first half of the day the public prosecutor demanded sentence for the defendants. He demanded 2-year imprisonment for Orkhan Nadirov, 9-year imprisonment for Yalchin Hasanov, 8-year imprisonment for Hasan Hasanov, 8-year imprisonment for Ruslan Rustamov, 5-year imprisonment for Ruslan Zaliyev, 5-year imprisonment for Vugar Aliyev, 5-year imprisonment for Javid Aliyev, 18-month imprisonment for Ramil Hasanov, 1-year imprisonment for Kamala Eyvazova, 18-month imprisonment for Elshan Budagov, 18-month imprisonment for Mirali Aliyev, 7 years and 3 months for Zubaya Gulami and 8 years and 6 months for Ali Ismayilov.
Earlier, the court passed a decision to suspend the criminal case launched on Mahir Mirsalamli until he recovers.
According to the indictment, Orkhan Nadirov, Mahir Mirsalamli and Yalchin Hasanov, Elshan Rustamov, Ali Ismayilov, Zubiye Gulami, Vugar Aliyev, Javidan Aliyev, Ramin Hasanov, Kamila Eyvazova, Elshan Budagov, Hasan Hasanov, Mirali Aliyev faced charges under articles 234.1 (illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances) and 234.4.1 (Illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances on preliminary arrangement by group of persons or organized group) of the Criminal Code.
