Prosecutorâ€™s Office: A gunman killed in shooting with Azerbaijani border guards suspected to be a member of radical religious group

The killed gunman had no documents, which complicated hid identification, but his appearance (beard) showed that he probably was a member of radical religious group. Investigators are identifying now his nationality and identity.

Republican General Prosecutorâ€™s Office Grave Crimes Investigative Department launched a criminal case on the fact, which is under the investigation now.

Soldier of the Zagatala Border Guard Unit Bahruz Asgar Isayev, 19 wounded during the incident was hospitalized. Chief Doctor of the Balakan Central Hospital Akif Ulukhanov told APA Isayev arrived in hospital at 05.00 Thursday morning with a leg wound. His condition is normal.

The shooting occurred between the Azerbaijani border guards and trespassers attempting to cross state borders of Azerbaijan in the night from July 15 to 16 in the territory of Three Points in the mountains of Gubek, which are the borders of Russia-Azerbaijan-Georgia. The trespassers, who didnâ€™t pay attention to the border guardsâ€™ warning, fired on the border guards and wounded one of them, police office of Balakan region told APA local bureau. One of the armed trespassers was killed in the shooting and five others could escape.

Police and prosecutorâ€™s office of the regions of Balakan and Zagatala border guards are conducting large-scale operations to detain escaped trespassers.
