Azerbaijani Justice Minister attends Conference of Council of Europe Ministers of Justice

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. Azerbaijani Justice Minister attended the 29th Conference of Council of Europe Ministers of Justice in Norway, the ministry’s press service told APA. The conference on the theme ’’Breaking the silence – united against domestic violence’’ was held in Tromso. The participants noted the importance of gender equality, and said domestic violence was the violation of human rights. it was noted that draft convention had been prepared by the Council of Europe to eliminate the problem.

Fikrat Mammadov said much attention was paid to the gender problem in Azerbaijan, necessary measures were being taken to increase the role of women in the country and eliminate discrimination. He gave information about the state programs implemented in Azerbaijan. Justice Minister said as a result of Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan 250,000 Azerbaijani families faced social, moral, domestic and psychological problems.

Three resolutions were adopted at the end of the conference to strengthen struggle against domestic violence, increase the efficiency of the international legal assistance. Fikrat Mammadov met with Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe, Justice Ministers of Turkey, Netherlands, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and other countries.
