Baku Appeals Court considers Huseyn Arabul’s appeal

The lawyer said judge Rasul Safarov presided over the hearing. The defendant was not brought to the court. The court rejected the appeal filed by Turkish businessman and upheld the decision of Sabayel district court.

Former president of Barmek-Azerbaijan company Huseyn Arabul was detained by Shamkir frontier guards near the Alazan River while attempting to leave Azerbaijan for Georgia at 2.00 on June 3. Criminal case was launched against him on Article 318 (illegal crossing border) of the Criminal Code. Sabayel district court sentenced Arabul to two months in jail on June 4.

Huseyn Arabul had faced charges of embezzling state property. In 2007, the Court of Grave Crimes issued a five-year suspended sentence on Arabul with fine of AZN 1.370 million. Under the decision of the court, he is banned to leave Azerbaijan during this period.
