State Border Service reports about Huseyn Arabulâ€™s trespass

As a result of operational measures taken by the SBS officers, former head of Bermek-Azerbaijan Electricity Network Ltd Huseyn Arabul, who was conditionally sentenced for five years and banned to leave the territory of Azerbaijan in this period under articles 179.3.2, 308.2 and 313 of the Penal Code of Azerbaijan, was detained on June 2 at about 17.00 in the area between the checkpoints on Azerbaijan-Georgian border while was illegally crossing the border. SBS Investigative Office launched a criminal case against Arabul under article 318.2 (illegal crossing of state border) of the Penal Code and he was arrested for pre-trial detention. Arabul had long-time preparations for illegal crossing the borders. He got the false driver license under the name of Ahmet Arslan with his photo. Then he invited the Turkish citizen Irfan Altiparmak, who introduced himself as Afshar, planning to leave Azerbaijan for Kazakhstan in the trucks. But he didnâ€™t find persons who could assist them to realize his plan and decided to cross the Azerbaijan-Georgia borders. They asked Turkish businessmen Tarik Olmac and Ayhan Donmez to assist them and promised to Ayhan $8 000. Donmez took $5 000 for himself and gave $3 000 to his brother-in-law Ramal Akbarov, resident of Shamkir Region, who helped Arabul and Altiparmak to arrive in Shamkir. Arabul dyed his hair and lived in Shamkir and Gazakh under the name of Ahmad. He wore like a fisherman, had a sports bag and always carried a fishing-rod.
As Ramal Akbarov was to leave for Moscow, he told his friend Mahir Latifov to help Arabul cross the state border illegally. Latifov talked to several persons and on May 29, brought Huseyn Arabul and Irfan to Gazakh to stay in Goyazan inn. When Arabul was detained, he said he crossed the border illegally and offered $30,000 to the officers of State Border Service to allow him return to Azerbaijan.
On June 9, Latifov and Akbarov were held accountable and arrested. Operations continue to investigate Arabulâ€™s crossing the border illegally and reveal other participants of the crime.
