Azerbaijani crew members of Mira ship detained in India to sue shipping company

Baku. Elnur Mammadli – APA. Azerbaijani crew of the Mira ship owned by Turkey-based Mira Shipping Company, is going to sue the company to get their six-month salaries. Chief engineer of the ship Zahid Aliyev told APA as they had no means, they would file the lawsuit in Azerbaijani courts.
“We are having discussions with lawyers. We will file the suit in Turkish courts if possible,” he said.
Zahid Aliyev said Azerbaijani businessmen, President of Palmali Group of Companies Mubariz Mansimov promised to pay the court expenses.
“We are not going to reject our salaries. The company owes me $50,000,” he said.

Aliyev said they could not contact the company leadership.
“We can not get our salaries, they do not intend to give our salaries. On the other hand, the company has about $20 million debts. Now they have not even $50,000. The company has gone bankrupt,” he said.

The Mira ship was detained in India for four months. 16 of the 24 crew members were citizens of Turkey and 8 of Azerbaijan. With support of Azerbaijani embassy in India our compatriots were sent from Bhavnagar to Istanbul and from there to Azerbaijan.
