Human Rights Month in Azerbaijan on Ombudspersonâ€™s initiative

Baku â€“APA. Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner Elmira Suleymanova put forward initiative to organize Human Rights Month in Azerbaijan from May 18 to June 18, 2009. Human Rights organizations, governmental agencies, as well as NGOs will hold various events and debates throughout the country within a month to discuss the progresses and problems of their activity last year, Human Rights Commissionerâ€™s Office told APA. They will submit reports on their activity and proposals for more useful measures for protection of human rights to the Ombudsperson until June 15. The government organizations responsible for the implementation of National Action Plan on Human Rights Protection, involved NGOs and media organizations will organize the relevant education work.
The Ombudsperson recommended to the Ministry of Education to organize human rights hours in the secondary and higher schools until the end of May jointly with the staff of Human Rights Commissionerâ€™s Office.
