Businessman accused in campaign against state sentenced to 6 years

The hearing was carried out by the personnel of the Court of Grave Crimes in Nizami district court of Ganja. APA’s west bureau reports that judge Afgan Hajiyev presided over the hearing. The defendants and 24 out of 30 witnesses gave testimonies. Ibrahimov and other defendant Haji Katlayev partially admitted their guilt, Nabi Sulkhayev did not admit his guilt.
Following this, public prosecutor Mustajab Aliyev basing on the investigation materials, witnesses’ testimonies and judgments of the examination, demanded 7-year imprisonment for Ibrahimov, 5 years and 6 months imprisonment for Katlayev and Sulkhayev.
Under the decision of the court, Ibrahimov was sentenced to 6 years in jail and the other two to 5 years in jail.
Under the decision, Sulkhayev’s VAZ-21011, which was used while distributing leaflets, was not confiscated, but given back to his family.
Ibrahimov, aka Zagatalski is a businessman. He is the owner of “Lazzat†recreation center and “Magara†tobacco farm.
Ibrahimov was detained as a result of the operations carried out by National Security Ministry and Zagatala region police office on October 13. A few days later, his supporters – his driver Nabi Sulkhayev and employee of “Lazzat†recreation center Haji Katlayev were arrested.
According to the indictment, all three were detained by the local officers of the National Security Ministry while distributing provocative leaflets in the villages populated by the national minorities. 15-page brochures (300 copies) “Call of ancestors†were against the state and contained tendencies to establish Autonomous Republic in the region. 2 hand grenades, 5.45mm caliber cartridges for AK-74 weapons, two chargers were found in the house of Zagatalski.
Zagatalski and his supporters faced charges under articles 228.1 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation or carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies (except for the smooth-bore hunting weapon and ammunition to it), explosives), 234.1 (Illegal purchase or storage without a purpose of selling of narcotics or psychotropic substances in a quantity (amount) exceeding necessary for personal consumption) and 281.2 (public appeals directed against the state to violent capture of authority, violent deduction of authority or violent change constitutional grounds or infringement of territorial integrity) of the Criminal Code.
