Azerbaijan hosts conference of heads of law-enforcement agencies of Organization of Islamic Conference
Drawing attention to the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, Deputy Prime Minister said conditions were created in the occupied territories for the transnational organized crimes.
Director of department for law-enforcement bodies of the President’s Office Fuad Alasgarov read Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s congratulation to the conference. In his statement, the head of state said conditions were created for transnational organized crimes in the occupied Azerbaijani territories and noted that OIC members should demonstrate common position on such problems. The statement called on OIC members to unite efforts to prevent transnational organized crimes, international terrorism and corruption.
After Fuad Alasgarov read the statement, OIC Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs Izzet Kamil Mushti addressed the conference. Mushti underlined the great importance of the conference and focused attention on the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia. “The part of Azerbaijan’s territories is under the occupation for 20 years. Nagorno Karabakh and seven nearby regions were occupied by Armenia. As a result of this occupation, Azerbaijan has one million refugees and displaced persons. This conference of the Organization of the Islamic Conference supports Azerbaijan’s rightful causeâ€.
The Deputy Secretary General said the conference would assist the OIC countries to create legal normative basis and cooperation between their law-enforcement organizations.
Addressing the conference, Minister of National Security of Azerbaijan Eldar Mahmoudov noted that various threatening challenges and activity of radical groups were prevented in the country last year. Azerbaijan can be considered as a secure country not only in the South Caucasus, but in CIS as well, the minister said. Mahmoudov mentioned the cooperation between Azerbaijan and various international organizations and urged the OIC countries to develop cooperation between their law-enforcement organizations. The minister said a number of common problems concerned these countries and Azerbaijan showed principal position in this field.
The conference is continued without participation of the media.
The participants expected to adopt Baku Declaration at the end of the two-day conference.
