Champion’s brother Vugar Mammadov confirmed the fact to APA. Mammadov was detained on Tuesday in the funeral in Gokhmug village of Shaki region by the Shaki region police officers.
Police searched his house in Gokhmug Village and found two rifles, including Winchester and gas pistol.
Accused person’s brother said Mammadov was brought to Baku on Wednesday. He said his brother was not involved in any crime and he stored legal arms in his house. “My brother is sportsman. He was not involved in any crime. He always worked to raise the Azerbaijan’s flagâ€.
Shaki Region Police Office also confirmed the fact of Mammadov’s arrest to APA. Police said Mammadov was detained as a result of operational searches conducted by the Interior Ministry Head Office for Combating Organized Crime. The local police office has not given information in details.
Mammadov was silver medalist of the European freestyle wrestling championship in Russia in 1999.
