Member of criminal group engaged in kidnapping in Azerbaijan arrested in Russia

Baku Main Police Office told APA that Karimov Afer Hasan, 33, had been wanted on articles 217 (brigandage), 120 (premeditated murder) and 182 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. He was detained in Volgograd, Russia as a result of the operations carried out by Baku Main Police Office.

Karimov was the member of the criminal group engaged in kidnapping led by Abuzerov Abuzer Maharramovich. The other members of the groups â€“ Allahverdiyev Sayad Allahverdi, Agayev Gabil Ahmad were arrested several years ago.
The above-mentioned persons under the leadership of Abuzer Abuzerov got into the taxi owned by Baku resident Bayramov Tofig Aliabbas near Lord Nicsa bar in Samad Vurgun street at 02.00 on August 3, 1996. They told the driver to drive to Tekrarmetal plant. Later other members of the group came by VAZ-21099, bound Bayramovâ€™s eyes and took him to an unknown place. They held Bayramov there for 13 days and exerted physical pressure on him. They phoned Bayramovâ€™s relatives and demanded $100,000. On August 16, 1996, the members of the group took the money and released Bayramov near Kurdakhany village.

As a result of the operations, some members of the group was detained and held accountable, but Karimov fled to Russia. Karimov was arrested in Volgograd. Measures are being taken for Karimovâ€™s extradition to Azerbaijan.

Information about Karimovâ€™s arrest has been posted on the website of Interior Ministry. His name is in the list of the wanted criminals.
