Witness: â€œTogether with Kamran Asadov we wanted to cross to Chechnya for jihad through Pankisi gorgeâ€

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“ APA. Hearing on the case of former officer of Azerbaijani Army Kamran Asadov and 19 others continued in the Military Court of Grave Crimes. APA reports that judge Islam Neymanov presided over the process. Witness Anar Rzayev gave testimony. He said he got acquainted with Kamran Asadov in Abu Bakr mosque. The witness said he had twice participated in the event together with the defendants in Khojasan and Lokbatan.
â€œWe had discussions with Kamran Asadov to go to Chechnya for jihad through Pankisi gorge. In 2006 I told Kamran Asadov to determine whether it was possible to cross to Chechnya through Georgia. Later we talked over the phone. He told me that it became difficult to go to Chechnya through Pankisi gorge. My aim in going to Lokbatan and Khojasan mountains was to participate in jihad in Chechnya. But only Kamran Asadov knew about it. I have no concrete opinion on the attempt to explode US, Israeli and UK embassies in Azerbaijan,â€ he said.
Rzayev said no one issued fatwa to them to go to jihad.
â€œA Muslim should live observing the rules written in Koran. I offer that Azerbaijan should be governed with the rules of sharia,â€ he said.
Following this, the witness answered the defendantsâ€™ questions.
The hearing will continue in the second half of the day.
Kamran Asadov, Bakhtiyar Orujov, Farid Jabbarov, Elshan Mammadov, Kamran Babayev, Samir Mehbaliyev, Terlan Karimov, Edgar Aliyev, Ramil Karimov, Shirvani Babayev, Samir Aliyev, Yalchin Maharramov, Orkhan Alizadeh, Hajibala Huseynov, Azer Ibadov, Shahriyar Maharramov, Ramin Jalilov, Rovshan Abdulaliyev, Ilkin Ismayilov and Vugar Aliyev are accused of setting up a radical religious group, attempting to start military struggle, attacking on LUKoil petrol station in Baku, preparing terror attack on the U.S. and UK embassies in Azerbaijan.
