Baku – APA. Today, September 29, the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) is marking its 5th anniversary.
AIDA was established on 14 September 2011 under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. With the establishment of this Agency, Azerbaijan, which was an aid receiving country, became an aid providing country. The main purpose in establishing the Azerbaijani aid agency was to support the efforts of international community in addressing social problems around the world.
AIDA closely cooperates with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Colombian Presidential Agency of International Cooperation (APC Colombia) and other donor agencies and through implementation of joint projects expands its partnership relations with those international organizations and agencies.
Since its establishment, AIDA in delivering aid to foreign countries is relying on the principles of cooperation, efficiency, transparency and equality of rights, and is organizing its activities in two directions: humanitarian aid and international development assistance. Guided by the “Millenium Development Goals” and based on the bilateral and multilateral cooperation, AIDA is supporting the developing countries with poverty reduction, development of science, culture and health sectors, wider application of information-communication technologies, efficient use of energy resources, various scholarship programs, as well as with implementation of other humanitarian and development programs. More than 30 countries have so far benefited from these programs and with their further development the number of beneficiaries will be increasing.
About 50,000 people regained sight as a result of the “Fight Avoidable Blindness” campaign carried out by AIDA in nine African countries (Burkina Faso, Chad, Djibouti, Benin, Guinea, Cameroon, Niger, Mali and Libya) that are OIC members
Moreover, AIDA provided assistance to Syrian refugees residing in Gaza, Palestine, Philippines, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Panama, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Afghanistan and Jordan. The Alliance provided support to scientific researches of the researchers from more than 15 countries. It has held training seminars in the “Oil, Gas Technologies and Chemistry” Scientific Research Institute of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy for the specialists in oil and gas industry from 26 countries of Latin America, Asia and Africa on extraction of energy resources
“Currently, we are implementing assistance projects in several countries. it is a big responsibility and honor to us that we were able to properly deliver the kindness of our people to the peoples in need”, said AIDA Director Ahraf Shikhaliyev.
AIDA is actively involved in organization of a round table in the Baku International Humanitarian Forum.
