Thirty-one people have been arrested in Kyrgyzstan for plotting terrorist attacks

Kyrgyz security services conducted a special operation, detaining 31 members of terrorist organizations planning attacks against police officers and religious leaders. This was reported by the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of the republic, APA reports.

"The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) conducted a large-scale anti-terrorist operation to neutralize active members of the international terrorist organizations Katiba al-Tawhid wal-Jihad and the Islamic State, who were planning terrorist attacks against law enforcement officers and religious leaders," the statement reads. "As a result of the operation, 31 individuals suspected of involvement in preparing terrorist crimes were detained, including 11 individuals in the Osh region and 20 individuals in the Batken region."

During counterterrorism operations by special services in the regional capital of Osh, the Kara-Suu district of Osh Oblast, as well as in the city of Kyzyl-Kiya and the village of Uch-Korgon in Batken Oblast, a legal regime for an antiterrorist operation was introduced. The task forces formed included representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Border Service, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Health, the leadership of the presidential plenipotentiary representatives in the regions, and the Osh mayor's office.

"During the searches, religious extremist literature, electronic media containing extremist materials, four unregistered firearms, symbols of terrorist organizations, and funds intended for financing foreign terrorist underground organizations were seized from the detainees," the statement noted. The special operation was personally supervised by the head of the State Committee for National Security, Zhumgalbek Shabdanbekov, who ordered a "further investigation into the detainees' connections," as well as the identification of their possible accomplices and the uncovering of terrorist financing channels.

The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) emphasized that the operation was conducted "in strict compliance with the law." "The Main Investigative Department of the GKNB is currently conducting investigative and operational measures to establish all the circumstances of the case and any possible additional incidents," the statement noted.
