Romanian and Azerbaijani foreign ministries to have political consultations next months

Last year was very important in terms of strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan and Romania and these relations are based on a strategic partnership, Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Daniel Cristian Ciobanu visiting monument to Romania`s composer George Enescu erected in Baku on the occasion of the National Culture Day of Romania told journalists, APA reports.

He said that Romanian Prime Minister, Speaker of the lower chamber of parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Azerbaijan in 2013. Romanian and Azerbaijani foreign ministries are planning to have political consultations next months.

“Today Ilham Aliyev takes part at North Atlantic Council. This is very important event. I think, it is very symbolic that the first official foreign visit, that president pays this year is at NATO headquarters and I think that this is a sign that relations between NATO and Azerbaijan will develop this year very successfully. I can say that relations between NATO and Azerbaijan have a strategic value. At NATO we highly appreciate the contribution that Azerbaijan has made in Afghanistan not just of troops but also in terms on financial aid, transit and training of afghani specialist,” said the diplomat.

Ciobanu also touched on the economic relations between Romania and Azerbaijan. He said that Romania welcomes the opening of Southern Corridor. He added that his country is now working together on AGRI project with Azerbaijan, Georgia and Hungary: “We also believe that there are great opportunities for the development of relations in the field of transportation. We have Black Sea - Caspian Sea joint project. We are working in this direction as well.”
