The well-known U.S. news platform Newsmax aired a special program dedicated to the Washington Summit between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, mediated by President Donald Trump, APA reports.
The guest of the program was Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the United States, Khazar Ibrahim.
The program extensively discussed the significance of the Washington meeting, its regional and global implications, as well as the U.S. role in mediation.
Host Rob Esperino noted that the document signed in Washington marked an important milestone not only for the South Caucasus but also for international security and cooperation as a whole.
Khazar Ibrahim stressed that holding the meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Washington — one of the world’s most influential political centers — at the initiative of President Trump was of great symbolic and political importance.
According to him, thanks to President Trump’s leadership and mediation, negotiations that had been stalled for years entered a stage of real progress within a short period.
“It was a historic moment…”
Ambassador Ibrahim added that the document opens wide opportunities for peace and cooperation:
“This happened in the number one capital of the world, under the leadership of peacemaker President Trump. Now, the doors, windows, and hearts are open for the establishment of real peace in the region; there is an opportunity for integration not only with neighbors but with the whole world,” he emphasized.
The diplomat recalled that international mediation efforts — especially within the OSCE format — had remained fruitless for decades against the backdrop of over 30 years of conflict, occupation of territories, ethnic cleansing, and hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons unable to return home due to landmines. According to him, the achievement of the Trump administration in such a short time was a true “diplomatic miracle.”
The ambassador stressed that direct negotiations positively influenced the peace process: “Direct dialogue between leaders is essential. The participation of a determined and experienced leader like Donald Trump brought this process to a successful conclusion.”
Azerbaijan – An open and tolerant society
During the program, the host noted that Azerbaijan is an open and tolerant country where, despite the majority of the population being Muslim, women and non-Muslims enjoy equal rights. He also emphasized that Azerbaijan borders both Russia and Iran while maintaining close partnerships with the U.S. and Israel.
Complementing the host’s remarks, Khazar Ibrahim said that Azerbaijan’s motto has always been cooperation, not confrontation:
“Israel is our good friend. The world’s second-oldest Jewish community lives in Azerbaijan. We have historically lived in harmony with Jews, Christians, and other communities. There has never been interfaith confrontation in Azerbaijan," he added.
The diplomat added that Azerbaijan exports energy resources to Israel and engages in close cooperation in areas such as economy, technology, and agriculture.
“President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize…”
The host recalled that President Trump had undertaken peace initiatives not only in the South Caucasus but also between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Thailand and Cambodia, as well as efforts to resolve the Russia–Ukraine conflict. He then asked whether Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
Ambassador Khazar Ibrahim said that Donald Trump indeed deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for taking significant steps toward establishing peace, including in the South Caucasus, within a short time, and for bringing peace to different corners of the world:
“This is not a personal opinion, but logic. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to those who bring peace. Donald Trump has taken important steps to establish peace in various regions of the world, including the South Caucasus, in a short period. As President Ilham Aliyev also said, Trump brings peace not only to the South Caucasus but to every corner of the globe. That is why his worthiness for the Nobel Peace Prize is as clear as day,” he concluded.
