"A peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan is of critical importance for the national security of the United States," Senator Steve Daines, a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in an interview with 77 WABC radio, APA reports.
The senator emphasized the geopolitical importance of the “Zangezur Corridor”: “Through this corridor, the five countries of Central Asia are on the verge of taking a more European and Western direction instead of Russia and China. This is a critical and important moment.”
Steve Daines recalled his visit to Azerbaijan in May: “I was there in May, I met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, then I went to Armenia and met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. They are on the verge of achieving this peace treaty.”
The American senator emphasized that this process is worrying Russia and Iran: “This is like another “Abraham Accords” that could bring some important dividends not only for the United States, but also for the West. Of course, Russia and Iran are not happy with this.”
