Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. Today, Benediktas Juodka, Chair of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs, has met with Hasan Mammadzadah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Seimas told APA that the prospects of bilateral relations were discussed at thee meting. The Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs confirms that Lithuania’s position on relations with foreign countries rests on the effective international treaties and remains unchanged. The Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs stresses that the statements made or initiatives undertaken by individual or small groups of members of the Seimas do not represent the official position of the Seimas.

Mr Juodka also reassures the Ambassador that the Committee has requested the leadership of the Seimas to establish more explicit procedures for setting up groups for inter-parliamentary relations and rules of their activities. The Committee believes that the setting up and the activities of inter-parliamentary, parliamentary and friendship groups should be in line with the objectives and principles of the Lithuanian foreign policy.
