Meeting of Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission held in Baku

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. The 7th meeting of Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission was held in Baku, APA reports. The co-chairs of the commission Foreign Ministers Elmar Mammadyarov and Manouchehr Mottaki made a statement on the outcomes of the meeting. Elmar Mammadyarov said prior to the commission’s meeting discussions had been held on the level of five working groups, document prepared on the outcomes of the meeting.
“Activities were carried out within the framework of working groups on industry and energy, transport and communications, economy, commerce, finance, banking and agriculture, culture, tourism, health and education as well as legal and border issues. We reached an agreement to make these groups permanent. Being co-chairs we are ready to interfere when necessary,” he said.

The minister said seven documents had been prepared on groups and underlined that the work on some issues in border, energy, tourism, culture and other areas would continue.

Elmar Mammadyarov said the 8th meeting of the commission would be held in Tehran.

Manouchehr Mottaki noted that cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan was improving in a number of spheres.
“The aim of the commission is to improve, enrich our relations and increase trade turnover between our countries,” he said.

Iranian minister said over 50,000 vehicles had been involved in the transportation of goods between the two countries and added that it showed high level of trade.
