Central Election Commission finds “The Republicans” Initiative Group’s applications baseless

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has today held a next meeting to consider applications in connection with the March 18 referendum to amend the constitution.

CEC member Rovshan Ismayilov said Gulagha Aslanli, representative of “The Republicans” Initiative Group, complained in his application about the obstacle created for signature collectors by local authorities in regions.
Ismayilov added that the complaints in the application were investigated and found untrue.

In a vote, the application was not sustained because it was baseless.
CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov said he Group sent another application too.
CEC Secretary Natig Mammadov briefed the participants about the complaint and said it is not expedient to put this to a vote because the complaint is not based on facts.
Panahov said only 9 of 14 Initiative Groups have to date submitted proper documents. According to him, document of 4 Groups have been processed and 3 of them were registered.
He said the documents of other groups will be processed in ten days.
“The deadline is February 1. For Constituency Election Commissions, 124 Initiative Groups have applied for registration and 113 of them have been registered,” he added.
