The statement reads:
“It has been learnt that on May 23 there will be held “parliamentary elections” in the Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia. These elections are contrary to the international law, decisions and expectations of international community. This election – being a part of endeavors directed to unilaterally legitimize the existing situation contrary to law in Nagorno Karabakh, means the violation of principles of international law, decisions of UN Security Council and OSCE principles. Nagorno Karabakh conflict is the most serious obstacle on the way of establishment of peace, stability and cooperation in the South Caucasus. Holding of “parliamentary elections” in the occupied Nagorno Karabakh territory of Azerbaijan is an initiative which will negatively impact on peace efforts while the intensive negotiations are conducted within the framework of OSCE Minsk Group for the purpose of peaceful solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan-Armenia discord.
Turkey condemns this step directed to violation of Azerbaijan’s political union, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Turkey will not recognize results of such “parliamentary elections” which do not assume any importance from the viewpoint of international law”.
