Macedonia takes over Council of Europe Committee of Ministers chairmanship from Switzerland

According to APA European bureau, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Chairperson of the Committee of Ministers Micheline Calmy-Rey presided over the meeting which focused on the future of the European Court of Human Rights and results of the Interlaken Conference, the role and responsibility of the Council of Europe, the Council’s activity toward the conflict in Georgia, CoE-EU relations, reforms at the Council of Europe.

Macedonia took over the rotating chairmanship of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, holding the post for the first time since the country gained independence.

Micheline Calmy-Rey reported about her country’s chairmanship during the past six months. Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Miloshoski announced the priorities of his country as a chairman at the Committee of Ministers in the next six months.

Azerbaijan is represented at the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers’ meeting by Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmoud Mammadguliyev.
