Azerbaijan sees growth in personal savings in foreign currency - <span style="color: red;">ANALYSIS

Baku. Musa Ahmadov – APA-Economics. As of April 1, 2015, the deposits placed by the customers in the banks made AZN 18,519.1 mln, up AZN 5,211,000 or 39.16% from previous year, said the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.

 

Along with this, the deposits increased AZN 37.4 mln or 0.2% in March.

 

5,546,800,000 or 30% of deposits are in manat, 12,972,300,000 or 70% in foreign currencies.

 

In January-March, 2014, the banks received 6,596,300,000 or 49.6% in manat, 6,711,800,000 or 50.4% in foreign currency.

 

Manat deposits rose 16.5% in February, declined 9.36% in March. Generally, interest for placing deposits in foreign currency increased in January-March. Manat deposits dropped 19.6%, foreign currency deposits increased 19.6% year-on-year.

 

Manat savings continue to decline

 

In March, the personal savings were equal to AZN 7,781.6 mln, up AZN 1,125.3 mln or 16.91% from previous year. Totally, personal savings slipped AZN 151.1 mln or 1.9% in March.

 

2,697,000,000 of personal savings in March were in manat, 5,084.6 mln – in foreign currency. Manat savings shed AZN 1,380.1 mln or 33.85% year-on-year. Savings in foreign currency increased AZN 2,505.3 mln or 97.13%.

 

Share of manat savings in total savings fell to 60.05% in January, 37.66% in February, 34.66% in March, while it was 61.5% last year.  

 

1.4 times decline of manat savings in February and 1.6 times in March should be based on manat devaluation. Because the population avoided placing savings in manat due to supposition on continuation of devaluation.
