Azerbaijan and Libya to boost trade turnover next year

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-Economics. Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Libya is predicted to increase by several times in 2009, said Khalaf Khalafov, Co-chairman of Azerbaijan-Libya Intergovernmental Commission and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister.
According to him, currently trade between the countries is $200 000, too below the existing potential and.
“At today’s meeting of the intergovernmental commission we discussed ways to increase trade. We believe that that the volume of trade will increase by several times next year as a result of the measures,” he added.
Mohamed Omar Al Barani, Co-chairman of the intergovernmental commission, Libyan Secretary for Asian Affairs of the General People’s Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation, said that his country is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of energy, including oil and gas sector.
He said these issues were discussed at his meetings in Baku.
Referring to the expected rise in trade turnover, he said Libya’s economy is open for Azerbaijani investments.
